Ronald Schneider
NameRonald Schneider
Job titleHead of CEE & EM Debt
CompanyRaiffeisen Capital Management
TitleA "New Normal" in EM calls for a selective investment approach
ContentEmerging markets are facing challenging times. The slowdown in global potential growth, declining commodity prices have exacerbated structural weaknesses in some countries that have been building up in recent years. That has sent spreads of some EM countries to multi-year highs and weakened several EM currencies to all-time lows. Other countries, predominantly in CEE, performed significantly better, benefiting from lower energy costs and being in an advanced stage of the deleveraging process. These developments once again highlight the heterogeneity of the EM universe which calls for a selective investment approach. The EM Bond team of Raiffeisen Capital Management takes this successfully into account. Ronald Schneider, Head of Emerging Market Debt and Lead Fund Manager of the Raiffeisen EasternEuropean Bond Fund will give his outlook for the EM debt market and will discuss whether CEE can continue its relative outperformance.
BiogRonald Schneider has been responsible for the management of Eastern European bond funds at Raiffeisen Capital Management Since 2002. His duties include the management of local and hard currency bonds. Since 2012 Ronald Schneider is Head of the CEE&EM Debt team. Before joining the asset management company, he spent over five years working as an economic and financial market analyst for Central and Eastern European market at Raiffeisen Zentralbank. Ronald completed a business management degree at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, specializing in financing and financial markets. Since 2001 he is a CFA charterholder.
