Mirae Asset - Rahul Chadha
NameRahul Chadha
Job titleCIO and PM
CompanyMirae Asset Global Investments
TitleAsia Opportunities on the Back of Current Sentiment
ContentMomentum driven investing essentially made Asia a darling of investors in 2017 and then in a dramatic U turn, the whipping boy in 2018. A mild cyclical consumption slowdown in Asian markets has been exacerbated by extreme dollar strength and escalation in trade war rhetoric.

In the absence of widespread signs of financial distress or significant systemic layoffs, we believe that the current slowdown is likely to be a shallow one – thereby creating attractive investment opportunities in coming year for disciplined long term investors.
BiogAs CIO of Mirae Asset Global Investments (HK), Rahul oversees the Investment Unit. He is a member of the Investment Committee and plays a key role in the development of investment policies, processes and key investment decisions.

Rahul joined Mirae Asset as an Analyst in April 2006 and was soon promoted to manage the firm’s India funds followed by the Asia funds in 2010.

Rahul began his financial career in 1999 as an Analyst with Dundee Mutual Funds covering India equities. He joined Aviva Life Insurance as a Senior Equity Analyst in 2003. He worked for Standard Chartered Mutual Funds as a Senior Equity Analyst before joining Mirae Asset.

He holds a degree in Master of Finance and Control, a postgraduate program with specialization in Finance and a Bachelor of Business Studies, an undergraduate management program with Marketing specialization, both from the University of Delhi. He speaks English and Hindi.

TitleAviva Investors Multi Strategy Fixed Income: Embedding Resilience into fixed income Portfolios
ContentFalling inflation and interest rates over the last 40 years created a tailwind for fixed income returns which we do not expect to be repeated over the next 5 to 10 years. Investors are being forced to take more and more interest rate and credit risk to secure ever diminishing returns from fixed income.

The Aviva Investors Multi-Strategy (AIMS) Fixed Income strategy can help to address the current challenges faced by fixed income investors and how our strategy aims to deliver enhanced returns over cash with lower volatility than global fixed income with a low correlation to traditional fixed income asset classes.
BiogJoubeen is a co-manager of the AIMS Fixed Income portfolio. Joubeen is a permanent member of the Strategic Investment Group ('SIG'), where all investment ideas that are proposed for inclusion in the AIMS portfolios are rigorously debated.

TitleExceptional times, exceptional measures?
ContentWe seem to be living in exceptional times for financial markets; since the financial crisis, most asset classes have performed very strongly and valuations now stand at very elevated levels. As a result, during the past decade short sellers have had a miserable time. However, things may be changing.. Markets are showing signs of nervousness, volatility is rising and short sellers sense an opportunity. When the inevitable correction does come, it could be severe, so investors should start preparing by seeking negatively correlated strategies. In this presentation, Ivan will explain how Jupiter's global equity long short strategy can assist investors in an environment of all mainstream asset classes falling in step.
BiogIvan joined Jupiter in 2014 and is currently an Assistant Fund Manager in the Absolute Return team. Before joining Jupiter, Ivan was a Trainee Investment Manager at Scottish Widows Investment Partnership. There he worked on the global equities team as the interim manager of SWIP’s real estate equity funds and was also actively involved in the management of a UK long short fund and a global financials fund.
