Comgest to discuss European equities in Milan

Franz Weis (pictured), team manager of Comgest’s Europe equity investment team, will join the InvestmentEurope Fund Selector Forum Italy 2015 to discuss opportunities within the small and mid cap space in Europe.

“Over the past five years, European economic growth has been disappointing and European companies have consistently failed to generate any meaningful earnings growth.

“The current economic outlook for Europe, and indeed globally, promises only moderate growth. Against this background, most companies will continue to struggle to increase their earnings,” the manager will say.

Comgest’s investment style focuses on superior and sustainable earnings growth.

“Even in recent years, the companies held in the Comgest Growth Greater Europe Opportunities fund generated dynamic growth. They occupy dominant positions in structural growth niches or pursue an autonomous strategic development, resulting in ongoing strong earnings growth which has, since the fund’s launch 6 years ago, translated into strong relative performance for the fund.

“The fund’s quality growth approach adds value for investors through fundamental research, a high active share and a long-term investment horizon,” the company says.

Franz Weis is the team manager of Comgest’s Europe equity investment team, having joined the firm in 2005 as a Portfolio Manager and Analyst.

He became a member of the Comgest Global Investors Management Committee in 2014.

Weis co-leads the management of the majority of Comgest’s European equity public funds as well as maintaining responsibility for a number of European segregated mandates.

He started his career in 1990 at Baillie Gifford & Co. where he worked as a Portfolio Manager before joining F&C Asset Management as a Senior Portfolio Manager and Director of European Equities in 1999.

He graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with a Master’s degree in Science in International Banking and Financial Studies and received the International Bankers in Scotland Prize. He is an IIMR Associate.
