Geir Haarde to deliver keynote at Hamburg Summit
Geir Haarde, former prime minister of Iceland, will deliver the keynote at the InvestmentEurope Pan European Fund Selector Summit held in Hamburg on 15-17 October.
Haarde, who is a member of the Icelandic Independence Party, has been prime minister of Iceland between 2006 and 2009 and is the only political leader in the world who has been taken to court for not doing enough to prevent the 2008 financial crisis.
He was fully exonerated by a Special Court on five out of six charges and later also vindicated by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Prior to becoming prime minister, he has among others been a minister of Foreign Affairs, minister of Finance, and chairman of the Icelandic Independence Party.
Before entering the Icelandic Parliament, he was an economist at the Central Bank of Iceland from 1977 to 1983 and a political adviser to the Icelandic Minister of Finance from 1983 to 1987.
In addition to Icelandic, he is also fluent in English, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, French and German.
