InvestmentEurope Personality of the Year Award 2015/16

InvestmentEurope‘s Personality of the Year Awards highlighted selector peers in Benelux, France Germany, Iberia, italy, Nordics, Switzerland and the UK.

The Awards were based on nominations gathered from fund selectors across Europe, who were asked to nominate peers they felt had done most to foster the role of the fund selector and the industry.

Benelux Michele Vaglia Fund Management Asset Allocation & Global Equities BG Fund Management Luxembourg SA
 Since March 2010 to the present, Michele Vaglia has been working at BG Fund Management Luxembourg SA as Fund Manager of the BG Sicav Flexible Global Equities (€125m AUM, structural preferences: (growth) Consumer Discretionary, IT, Health Care; and  Small-Mid Euro Cap Equities (€70m AUM, preferences: Consumer Discretionary, Industrials. Italian companies focus). Active Advisor in Global asset allocation and Fund of funds selection Team, Equity, Bond and Currency multi asset investments. 15 years at Banca Bsi Italia SpA as Head of Asset Management, and 10 years at Mediobanca SpA on Investment Banking, Capital Markets and Corporate Finance – both in Milan. Financial Analyst, with a degree In Economic Sciences and Banking from the Cattolica University, Milan. Working at BG FM since early 2010, he is now responsible for managing the BG Sicav, as well as advising on global asset allocation and contributing to the fund of funds selection team.

Pierre Bismuth began his career in 1998 within the insurance business of Société Générale Group, where he was Actuary and Head of client servicing in Luxembourg, then fund analyst and asset allocator in Paris. In 2005, he joins Prédica (part of Crédit Agricole Assurances) where he was Responsible of bond and alternative portfolios. In 2007, he becomes fund analyst and portfolio manager for bond, flexible and absolute return funds within Natixis Group. In 2014, he becomes Managing Director and Head of asset management. With a career spanning back to 1998, he has worked at Societe General, Prédica (part of Crédit Agricole Assurances) and then Natixis before joining Myria AM to take up his current role.

 

Jörg Schmidt

Germany & Overall winner Jörg Schmidt Vice president; Multi Asset Management and Head of Fund selection strategy Union Investment
Jörg Schmidt is senior portfolio manager and head of fund selection strategy within Union Investment’s Multi Asset Management division since 2010. His responsibilities include the fund selection process and the portfolio construction of the multi-manager strategy for absolute return products, which are integrated in the mutual funds managed by the team. Before moving to his current position, Schmidt spent nine years focusing on fund-of-funds management. He established the investment process for the selection of external managers at Union Investment. He began his career with Union Investment in 1998 as a technical and quantitative analyst within Portfolio Management. Schmidt studied business administration at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. After receiving his degree in business administration he completed a management trainee programme with Commerzbank AG in Frankfurt. He published several articles in various German and international financial journals and books on the topics of style investing and fund selection. As head of fund selection strategy since 2010, he is involved in the portfolio construction of the multi-manager strategy for absolute return products. He is an author on style investing and fund selection.

 

Daniel Aymerich

After earning a  degree from NYU’s Stern School of Business he went to work at the LATAM Equity Institutional Sales Desk at Credit Suisse First Boston in New York, switching to the Buy Side thereafter to work as an Analyst at a Hedge Fund. Back in Spain he was one of the founding partners of the first Saxo Bank’s Introducing Broker in the country; later on he became an Analyst and a Portfolio Manager at Inversis Banco in Madrid, remaining there for 8 years before joining Andbank Asset Management as a PM and the Head of Fund Selection in April 2014. At Andbank AM as head of Fund Selection since early 2014, he has previously worked for Inversis Banco and Saxo Bank, both with a focus on activities in Spain

 

Biamino Paologuido

Euromobiliare asset management, part of the CREDEM group. We manage in total 18 bn eur of assets with a strong focus on multimanager activities (fund of funds and individual accounts). I am the head of the fund selection unit, a group of experienced fund analysts doing only manager research and analysis. We do not directly manage portfolios although we are in close contact with our portfolio management teams. I am a decane of the sector having been involved in fund of fund management since the late nineties starting with international companies. Our current research interest is mainly total return strategies and liquid alternatives. Having been in fund of fund management since the late 1990s, he now helps manage €18bn of assets, heading a selection unit that is mainly researching total return and liquid alternatives strategies.

 

Axel Norlund

Nordics Axel Norlund Portfolio Manager Nordea Investment Management
Axel Norlund – 16 years of investment experience Responsible for the selection and evaluation of investment strategies primarily within the long-only equity space. Works closely with the rest of the equity team to ensure the availability of best in class strategies on our sub-advised platform as well as for our guided fund universe (GFU). Prior to joining External Products, Axel was a Portfolio Manager at Erik Penser Fonder AB in Stockholm, acting as a co-lead portfolio manager for the Erik Penser Hedge Fund. Prior to Erik Penser Fonder Axel was an Assistant Portfolio Manager at SEB Fonder, where he began his career as an Account Manager for External Funds in 1999. Axel holds a M.Sc. degree from in Economics and Finance from the University of Uppsala. With 16 years of investment experience he is responsible for selection and evaluation of investment strategies primarily in the long only equity space, for both a sub-advised platform and guided fund universe.

 

Thomas Zuttel

Switzerland Thomas Züttel Deputy Manager of Fund Research & Asset Management ifund
Thomas Züttel is the Deputy Manager of Fund Research & Asset Management at ifund in Zurich, a member of the investment committee and has been working as a portfolio manager and analyst since 2007. He is responsible for providing tailor-made fund research to Swiss and international banks and for robot fund advice to fintech platforms. He graduated in economics with a focus on banking & finance from the University of St Gallen (HSG) Switzerland and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA). He has been working as a portfolio manager and analyst since 2007, providing tailor-made fund research to Swiss and international banks, and for robot fund advice to fintech platforms.

 

Tom Caddick

UK Tom Caddick Head of Global Multi Asset Solutions Santander AM
Tom Caddick has 17 years’ experience in fund management and has held several Senior Fund Manager roles during this time. Tom overseas an investment department, Global Multi Asset Solutions, based in 5 locations managing in excess of €21bn for clients in nine countries. Before joining Santander Asset Management UK in January 2011, Tom was at LV=Asset Management for three years, where he established the Standard & Poor’s A-rated Multi Manager department and helped spearhead the group’s move into retail asset management. Tom received a coveted Citywire A rating, and was a regular guest on CNBC. Previously, Tom was a Multi Manager Fund Manager at F&C Asset Management (formerly ISIS Asset Management). Tom started his career in private client investment management, with responsibilities for individual client portfolios. He holds a BA (Hons) degree in Accounting and Finance. With 17 years of fund management experience, he joined Santander AM in January 2011 from previous roles at LV= Asset Management and F&C (formerly ISIS) Asset Management. He joined Santander AM in January 2011 and oversees an investment department, Global Multi Asset Solutions, based in 5 locations managing in excess of €21bn for clients in nine countries.
