Luis Fañanas of JOHCM reviews European large caps at Copenhagen Forum

Luis Fañanas, fund manager at J O Hambro Captial Management, will address the different faces of value investing, particularly with reference to European large caps, when he speaks at the upcoming InvestmentEurope Copenhagen Forum 2017, taking place 24 October at the Hotel d’Angleterre.

As a stock picker, together with colleague Robrecht Wouters, Fañanas has built a concentrated portfolio of ‘quality value’ stocks that are complemented by what are termed ‘classic value’ ones, leading to a typical spread of just 25 large cap holdings and low portfolio turnover. The objective is absolute not relative value and an avoidance of timing investments. Research is proprietary.

With 21 years’ experience, Fañanas joined JOHCM in March 2015 and is manager of the JOHCM Concentrated Value Strategy and JOHCM European Select Values Strategy. Previously, he was at T. Rowe Price as a senior buy side analyst and member of the investment committee for the Global Small-Mid Cap team. Before that, he was a sell side equity analyst at Deutsche Bank in Madrid and London, before becoming research director for the European Small Cap Strategist. Also previously in Madrid, he worked with Julius Baer, now Kepler Equities, as an equities analyst. Employment has also been held at Morgan Stanley and Arthur Andersen, now Deloitte.

Fañanas holds a BA in Economics and Business Administration, specialising in Finance and Actuary from Complutense University, Madrid. He is a native Spanish speaker, with fluent English and basic French.
