Steve Johnstone of Janus Henderson Investors outlines the market neutral approach at Hamburg Summit
Steve Johnstone, fund manager at Janus Henderson Investors, is set to outline how investors can benefit from applying an equity market neutral approach at times of market uncertainty, when he joins the upcoming Pan-European Summit Hamburg 2018, which takes place 17-19 October in the German city.
Johnstone is responsible for top down overlay and quantitative risk control of the strategies he manages. At a time of geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty, he argues that there is increasing investor demand to find funds that can deliver returns irrespective of market direction, and which exhibit low or negative correlation to both equities and other alternative asset classes. He will outline the Janus Henderson approach to blending stock picking with systematic portfolio construction.
Johnstone joined Janus Henderson Investors through the Henderson acquisition of Gartmore in 2011. He joined Gartmore in 2000 to work on market neutral long/short equity funds, before shifting to the investment risk team. His experience also includes stints at Merrill Lynch, Panmure Gordon, Industrial Bank of Japan and Baring Asset Management.
He has the CFA and close to three decades of industry experience.
