Investec Asset Management has appointed Leslie Lipschitz, former director of the IMF Institute, as visiting strategist for its global investment team. Based in Cape Town, Lipschitz will work closely with the fixed income and multi-asset teams in formulating their macroeconomic and thematic views.
In a career spanning almost 40 years at the IMF, Lipschitz held increasingly senior positions in three area departments (Asian and Pacific, African and European) and in the Policy Development and Review Department.
He worked extensively in Asia, Africa and Europe and led numerous IMF missions. He participated in the IMF’s work on surveillance over the major industrial countries, led programme negotiations for both emerging and developing countries, and was closely involved in the Fund's policy development work in surveillance and conditionality.
Lipschitz holds a PhD in economics from the University of London. He has been a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution and has taught at the School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University.
