BlackRock poaches BNP Paribas’ EM debt team

BlackRock has poached seven emerging market debt managers from BNP Paribas Investment Partners.

The chief investment officer of emerging market fixed income at BNP Paribas, Sergio Trigo Paz, will become the new head of BlackRock’s existing emerging market debt team, Investment Week understands.

BlackRock’s EMD team manages approximately £2.6bn in assets and is headed up by Imran Hussain (pictured), and supported by portfolio manager Daniel Shaykevich.

Investment Week understands the existing team will soon begin the process of transitioning their responsibilities into the newly established team.

BlackRock declined to comment on whether Hussain or Shaykevich would remain in their roles.

BlackRock’s emerging market debt products include the BGF Emerging Markets Bond fund and the BGF Local Emerging Markets Short Duration Bond fund.

Portfolio managers Raphael Marechal, Chris Kelly, Laurent Develay, Michel Aubenas, and Jane Yu will be joining BlackRock alongside senior investment specialist Ernesto Bettoni in the summer.
