BNP Paribas opens LatAm offices in Chile, Colombia
BNP Paribas has opened new offices in Colombia and Chile as part of its continued Latin America strategy, outlined by Patrick Colle, chief executive of BNP Paribas Securities Services in February a year ago.
Colle said then that the strategy was built on developing services for global clients.
“Launching our services in Colombia and Chile is a key milestone in realising that ambition,” he said today.
Claudia Calderón has been appointed head of BNP Paribas’ Colombia office, while Emiliano Martinez will head business development efforts in Chile.
Calderón, formerly of Cititrust Colombia, and Martinez, who joins from BNP Paribas’ asset management division, will report to Alvaro Camuñas, regional manager for Spain, Portugal and Latin America, and a member of the bank’s executive commitee.
Commenting on the appointments, Camuñas said: “”We are delighted to welcome Claudia and Emiliano to BNP Paribas. With 15 years’ experience in developing solutions for blue-chip South American clients, Claudia also has a successful track record in helping global custodians and international brokers set up their operations in Colombia. Her expertise, and Emiliano’s relationships with corporate and institutional investors in the region, are significant assets to us and will be key to developing our business in South America.”
Colle added that BNP Paribas’ experience with multi-country exchanges such as Euronext gave it an advantage in Latin America.
Chile was in the news recently with BTG Pactual merging with Chilean investment manager Celfin Capital to target asset management opportunities across the region.
