FMG illustrates China’s focus on infrastructure

FMG, the Malta based emerging and frontier markets manager, has looked to the development of public transport infrastructure in China to illustrate one of the ways it has invested in itself to reach the position as the world’s biggest economy.

“The US is on the brink of losing its status as the world’s largest economy and is likely to slip behind China this year,” FMG said in a note.

“This is much sooner than widely anticipated according to the world’s leading statistical agencies. The US has been the global leader since overtaking the UK in 1872. Most economists previously thought China would pull ahead in 2019. In monitoring and comparing the growth of emerging markets we also recently came across the below, highlighting the difference in priorities when taking steps forward. Food for thought…
