Gulfmena launches its second regional fund
Gulfmena has launched the Gulfmena Access Fund, a Luxembourg-regulated fund that will focus on capturing excess returns in Middle East and North Africa (Mena) equity markets relative to the S&P pan-Arab composite index.
The new fund will be managed by Haissam Arabi, Gulfmena CEO and his team from Gulfmena Investments Ltd, a Dubai based asset management company regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority.
Foreign investors look at the region as an out of index bet and are interested in the volatility it offers, taking advantage of oil prices movements, developments in commodities markets and wider events, the company said.
“The fund is actively managed and is designed to fully capture the upside potential of these markets. Its unique and very competitive pricing structure makes it highly affordable and also capable of better optimizing returns for investors, said Arabi.
Gulfmena also manages an absolute return fund and said that with the new fund’s launch it can now cater to both alternative and traditional investors.
The company said it had raised more than $65m in assets under management in its second year of operations despite difficult regional markets and a challenging business environment. It has added two directors to its board, Amjad Al Dwaik and Mark DeSario and its shareholder base now includes prominent families from the region including the Malhas Family, a Saudi based family office.
“We continue to be committed to the region despite recent events. The launch of this fund is a clear demonstration of that commitment. Our goal is to offer investors the best solutions for extracting value on their investments and portfolios in Mena. We believe that the Gulfmena Access Fund exemplifies that objective. Its launch comes at a time to re-emphasize the opportunities the region offers, and to take advantage of distorted and cheap valuations today which will represent tremendous value tomorrow”, said Amjad Al Dwaik.
Gulfmena’s primary fund management activity focuses on introducing traditional as well as alternative investment strategies to qualified institutional investors, family offices and high net worth individuals seeking exposure to Mena markets. It also offers international and regional clients customized strategies for conventional as well as Shari’ah compliant investments.
