RWC launches Cayman-based European fund
RWC has launched a Cayman-based European Focus Fund. The fund has already $145m under management, representing support from existing investors and will be managed by the European Focus team who joined from Hermes in October 2012.
The team is co-managed by Maarten Wildschut and Petteri Soininen and they will follow the same investment process they have used since coming together in 2009.
The strategy invests in a concentrated portfolio of 10 – 20 investments combining elements of value-based, private equity and event-driven investing. It takes a long-term active ownership approach to the companies that it invests in with a focus on fundamentally sound companies where constructive activism can help improve shareholder returns.
Commenting on the current strategy, Wildschut said: “We invest in fundamentally sound companies that are not valued to their full potential, due to factors that can be resolved within the company. We look for those where we can act as a catalyst for the change required to unlock value.”
The strategy has a capacity of up to $1bn and the new fund is a Cayman master-feeder fund. RWC currently manages $5.5bn, $890m of which is in its constructive activist strategies which also includes the Specialist UK Focus Fund and Japan Stewardship Fund.
