South Africa’s Coronation nabs Russell’s McKie for international sales
Coronation Fund Managers, a South Africa-based manager, has appointed Justin McKie as director for international sales and relationship management.
McKie (pictured) moves from his position as head of sales for the UK and Nordics at Russell Investments, where he worked for nine years.
He will be based in the firm’s London office, after spending an initial period in Cape Town.
McKie’s responsibility will be to develop the firm’s business outside of Africa.
He said working for a specialist emerging and frontier Africa manager was “a natural next step” for him, at a time when investors are “looking to exploit these opportunities.”
Kirshni Totaram, head of institutional business, commented: “In addition to new business from respected US and European clients, Coronation has seen a significant increase in interest from potential investors.”
Coronation Fund Manager invests across emerging markets and Africa. Its clients include 85% of South Africa’s top 200 pension funds, as well as the government pension funds of South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia.
The $39bn AUM firm is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and has offices in London, Dublin, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Gaborone, Mbabane and Windhoek.
Its funds are registered for retail distribution in Europe in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Finland and Ireland.
