New York Life IM opens office in Japan

New York Life Investment Management (Nylim) has opened a branch in Japan and appointed Tatsuo Mizutori as the head of office.

The subsidiary is currently seeking to obtain the business registrations and licenses in order to serve Japanese institutional clients.

Mizutori will be responsible for building Nylim’s business in Japan, and overseeing all activities of the Japan branch.

Most recently, Mizutori was the chief portfolio manager of the advisory fund management department at Nomura Asset Management.

Prior to his role at Nomura Asset Management, he was managing director at Nomura Fund Research and Technologies, where he headed the multi-asset management department, in charge of institutional clients for its investment advisory business.

He also held roles with Russell Investments Japan and Mercer Global Investments as well as investmentmanagement roles at Nippon Credit Bank and NCB Investment Management.

New York Life Investment Management had $285bn (€258.7bn) in assets under management as of March 31, 2016.
