OMGI expands distribution team

Old Mutual Global Investors (OMGI) has announced that Simon Barrett (pictured) has joined the business as head of Middle East and Nordic Distribution.

Barrett is based in OMGI’s Edinburgh office and will report into Allan MacLeod, head of International Distribution at OMGI.

In his role, Barrett will be responsible for expanding OMGI’s distribution in the Middle East and Nordic regions, helping the business to service a broader range of clients, including wealth managers and global financial institutions.

He has over 20 years’ experience working in the Nordic region, and speaks Swedish, Danish and Norwegian. He joins OMGI from Martin Currie Investment Management, where he worked from 2004, most recently as Director, International Sales and Client Service.

In this role Barrett was responsible for all areas of sales and worked with a large range of clients including banks, life offices, sovereign wealth funds, family offices and corporate pension funds.

Prior to this Barrett worked as head of Nordic Sales at Allianz Dresdner Asset management for four years. Barrett has also held roles at Friends Provident International and Lawrence Morton & Co. He started his career in 1988 at Pegasus Financial Services.

His appointment comes as a part of OMGI’s international distribution expansion and follows the appointment of Dominic Issler as head of DACH distribution in April 2015.  The business is increasingly focused on hiring regional specialists in order to meet the needs of its evolving client base.

Allan MacLeod comments: “At Old Mutual Global Investors we are increasingly focused on expanding our international distribution and evolving our client base. Success in these regions will be a key driver for the future growth of the business.  Simon has a great deal of industry experience and his appointment will enable us to better service the unique needs of clients in the Middle East and Nordic regions.”
