ESG factors impact on investment returns: ING IM and ECCE team up
ING Investment Management (ING IM) and the European Centre for Corporate Engagement of Maastricht University have teamed up to launch a three stage research project on the impact of environmental, social and government factors on investment returns.
Together with ING IM, the ECCE will investigate the relations between a wide range of sustainability factors and key value drivers of companies.
“The importance of responsible investing (RI) has increased substantially in recent years, as the ultimate client of the investment industry – society – is driving the increasing focus on sustainability and responsibility. One of the key aspects of RI is the integration of ESG factors in the investment process. For us, this is a more complete approach to investing, as we strongly believe that integrating ESG factors improves the risk-return profile of our investments,” Hans Stoter, CIO at ING IM.
The research projects will run in cooperation with ING IM’s Responsible Investment, Global Equity Research and Credit teams. ECCE Research Fellow Arian Borgers will be conducting the research, working closely together with Rob Bauer and Jeroen Derwall, Assistant Professor of Finance at Maastricht University and co-founder of ECCE.
