Russell Investments secures more European institutional mandates
Indices from Russell Investment are to be used as the basis for investment strategies at the Danish Teachers Pension Fund (Lærernes) and the Dutch Metalworkers Pension fund (Pensioenfonds van de Metalektro).
The Danish fund has invested about €120m into a mandate tracking the Russell Fundamental Emerging Markets Large Company index, while the PME has invested an undisclosed amount in segregated mandates tracking the Russell Defensive US and Developed Europe indices.
Russell Indexes, the company’s index business, has been producing solutions for institutional investors since the early 1980s. Starting with capitalisation weighted indices and then by adding growth, value and style indices, it has since moved on to offer alternatively weighted, strategy, factor and fundamental index approaches.
Nick Spencer, director of institutional consulting for Russell Investments in Europe, said: “European institutional investors are increasingly considering fundamental and low volatility investment strategies as they seek to achieve more efficient risk/return portfolios in a volatile and return-constrained global market environment. We believe that the intelligent use of passive investment approaches can help when thinking across asset classes in the context of the whole portfolio to complement active investment strategies.”
