VAM launches clean energy fund with Lagun-Aro
Lagun-Aro, the Spanish corporate pension fund, is the anchor investor in the new VAM Accessible Clean Energy fund, a Luxembourg domiciled Ucits IV product that uses SRI principles.
The fund will invest in companies across the clean energy value chain, from raw materials to equipment manufacturers, technology developers to infrastructure projects, VAM said.
The fund will be available to UK and European institutional buyers.
VAM Accessible Clean Energy Fund’s lead adviser, Martina Turner, has more than 23 years of experience investing in energy and technology stocks for institutions including Deutsche Bank, Natwest Securities, Bankers Trust Alex Brown and US investment bank Jefferies International.
Turner said that the macro level commitment by governments to tackling climate change over the long term is focusing efforts on efficiencies in clean energy and assocaited technology sectors.
As an area that typically sees low levels of analyst cover, there are opportunities to add value as an investor by doing research and stock selection, she added.
“This is a long-term story and the good news is that investors have not missed the bull market.”
French manager Opportunité is managing the fund. It has been managing mainstream and alternative investments for over 30 years.
As a Ucits, the fund will offer daily dealing, although investors are being urged to consider a three year horizon. The portfolio will seek to hold 20-25 positions, diversifying through geography, sub-sectors and value chains.
