Berenberg strengthens UK mid-cap team

Berenberg expanded its UK equities offering with six additional hires into its UK mid-cap research team since the start of the year. They include analysts Charles Weston, a healthcare specialist who has spent two years in industry and has 12 years on the sell-side, most recently at Numis and Ian Osburn who has 10 years of experience and was most recently at Cantor Fitzgerald. The team has also hired Donald Tait from Panmure Gordon and Anthony Plom from Canaccord. With these appointments, the bank plans to expand its coverage of UK equities by a further 50% to 300 by the year-end.

Head of European Research, Laura Janssens, commented, “We have one of the largest research teams in European equities, with 100 analysts covering 700 stocks. Our UK mid-cap team is able to draw on the expertise of our sector analysts while looking for mispriced equity in under-researched parts of the market”.

David Mortlock, head of investment banking and head of the London office, said, “The continued investment into our research team demonstrates our ongoing success and ambition in the UK. Two years after setting out our stall to significantly increase UK ECM activity, we have continued to make strong progress, with involvement in 7 UK deals so far in 2017, most as sole book runner, and ongoing growth in our corporate broking client list.”
