Change of leadership at AXA

AXA has confirmed that Henri de Castries, executive officer of AXA and chairman of the group is set to retire as of September, his positions will be taken over by Thomas Buberl as new CEO and Denis Duverne as new chairman of the board.

Buberl joins the group with immediate effect, he will initially work as deputy CEO, working alongside de Castries and Duverne in order to launch the group’s new strategic plan, which is set to be publicised in June 2016.

Prior to this appointment, Buberl was CEO of AXA Germany, CEO of AXA Life & Savings and Health Global Business Lines and a member of the AXA Management Committee. In March 2015, he also joined the AXA Management Committee and was appointed CEO of the Global Business Line for the Health Business, and, in January 2016, of the Global Business Line for Life & Savings.

Duverne is currently a member of the Board and deputy CEO (“Directeur général délégué”) of AXA group.He has been with the group since 1995, having among others assumed responsibility for supervision of AXA’s operations in the US and the UK before managing the reorganization of AXA’s companies in Belgium and the United Kingdom following the merger with UAP, he also worked as a chief financial officer of AXA.
