Carmignac shakes up EM and Europe teams
French asset management firm Carmignac Gestion has made a new hire within its emerging markets team, among a series of changes at the firm
Alan Gao joins Carmignac Gestion in January 2011 as an Asian analyst, specialising in China.
Previously, Gao was a credit analyst at the alternative asset manager CQS, covering all Asian equity and bond markets.
Gao speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese, and was hired to replace another native Chinese who is no longer with the firm.
Former Asia analyst David Park will now focus on India, South Korea and South East Asia.
The moves are among a number of changes made to Carmignac’s emerging markets team, under Simon Pickard.
Having worked at the firm between 2000 and 2005, Pickard returned in 2008 to lead the team following the establishment of his own investment boutique in Switzerland.
At the same time, Xavier Hovasse joined Carmignac as an analyst for Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.
Hovasse is now co-manager the Carmignac Emerging Discovery fund alongside Pickard.
Jordan Cvetanovski meanwhile moves off that fund to concentrate on European equities.
He will manage the Euro‐Entrepreneurs fund alone, and continue his co‐management of Carmignac Grande Europe with Samir Essafri.
Essafri joined the firm from Axa Investment Management in November.
