Do emotions impact decision making by fund managers?

Former fund selector and behavioural finance consultant Phillippe Sarica has conducted a study of the characteristics of financial decision making, and whether emotions are a desirable or actual component in the selection and management process

In order to test the question, concepts of emotional intelligence (EI) were used by Sarica to construct a survey that in turn looked to identify qualities of good fund managers and faults that good managers should avoid.

The results of the survey suggest that for the fund selectors involved, there are indeed concerns over personality and emotional competencies of managers.
