French top institutional player names new CIO

French insurance group Maif has hired Sophie Elkrief (pictured) as chief investment officer.

Reporting to Maif’s deputy CEO Eric Berthoux, Elkrief will be responsible for all securities, real estate and non-listed investments.

Elkrief was most recently managing director of the investment solutions team and member of the executive committee at Meeschaert she joined in 2013.

Prior to that, she spent over 12 years at Dexia AM (now Candriam) where she held the role of deputy head of Alternative Investments and Credit.

Elkrief started her career in investment banking at Salomon Brothers in London in 1996 before joining JP Morgan in New York in 2000.

Maif had €15.7bn of assets under management as at the end of 2015.
