Societe Generale appoints group chief economist

French financial group Societe Generale has appointed Michala Marcussen (pictured) as group chief economist and head of Economic and Sectorial Research, effective 4 September 2017.

Marcussen succeeds Olivier Garnier who joins Bank of France and has been chief economist for Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking since December 2009.

Marcussen joined Societe Generale in 1994 as senior economist and held various research positions within the French group before becoming head of Economic and Strategic Research at Societe Generale Asset Management that later merged with Credit Agricole Asset Management to form Amundi.

She started her career at Danske Bank in 1986 in Copenhagen.
