Access to credit in Germany continues to be strong

Lending conditions for German businesses remain favourable in November according to the latest data released by the ifo Institute, although it tightened slightly from 17.7%  to 18.3 % month on month.

“For many companies in Germany, access to credit continues to be available” commented Hans Werner Sinn, president of the ifo Institute.

The monthly  survey measures access to credit among 4000 businesses in Germany, the percentage indicating the share of business struggling to get access to lending.

According to ifo, 21.2% of the construction sector, 18.8 of the retail, 16.6% of the manufacturing sector and 18.3% of the industrial economy reported difficulties to obtain credit.

More than 20% of small businesses struggled to obtain credit while the ratio was at 15% for large businesses.
