German employment figures reflect gradual optimism

German companies are gradually prepared to hire more staff, the latest ifo employment data suggest, the ifo employment index rose from 105.4 to 106.7 points month on month.

Growth has been particularly pronounced in the manufacturing and service sector, while retail companies consider cutting their workforce.

The news came as German manufacturing data suggest gradual improvement, with the Markit PMI index for Germany reaching a 2 month high of 51.2.
