German export outlook stabilises in September

Following five months of negative expectations, businesses in Germany now expect exports to stabilise, according to the latest survey conducted by the ifo institute.

Despite market volatility in China, the export outlook rose gradually from 7.4 to 7.7 basis points month on month.

Businesses in the mechanical engineering industry were the most optimistic, their outlook improved for the third month in a row, the metal and IT industry also reported signs of improvement, while the outlook for the chemical and electronics industry deteriorated.

The ifo September export outlook is based on reports from 2700 businesses in Germany.
