Union Investment has announced the appointment of Benjardin Gärtner (pictured) as head of equity fund management as of mid-2015.

Gärtner joins Union from Deutsche Bank’s Corporate Banking and Securities Division, where he was a member of the German equity team and member of the management Committee Germany.

He will report directly to Björn Jesch, who is the overall head of portfolio management at Union Investment.

“We are delighted to have gained such an experienced and high-profile manager for Union Investment,” commented Jens Wilhelm, member of the Board of Managing Directors of Union Asset Management Holding AG responsible for portfolio management and real estate.

Gärtner succeeds Michael Schmidt, who left Union Investment at the end of 2014 for personal reasons.
