Online trading IG Group has announced the launch of an app for the Apple Watch, available in 12 languages from 24 April.

IG’s first move into wearable technology aims to offer a new and more instantaneous way to trade and monitor the financial markets, complementing existing mobile technology.

The firm said the IG app will automatically install itself on clients’ Apple watches if they already have it downloaded on their iPhones.

With the app, clients will be able to buy and sell stocks, trade CFDs and spread bet across a number of asset classes from the watch and monitor their existing positions.

The economic calendar will keep clients informed of the day’s major financial events. They will be able to see how these events affect their positions and act on actual figures the moment they’re announced.

Ivan Gowan, head of Technology at IG comments : “The launch of this app follows IG’s revolutionary stockbroking platform launch and Sunday trading offering. These clearly demonstrate that improving the client experience through superior technology is at the heart of what IG does.

“We believe that trading on a watch is another important step in simplifying the trading and user experience. The features and functionality have been developed to ensure clients can access markets and execute trades in a simplified and immediate manner.”
