Franklin Templeton’s EM Balanced Fund debuts in Italy
Franklin Templeton Investments has launched on the Italian market the fund “Fondo FTIF Templeton Emerging Markets Balanced”.
The fund aims to provide investors with actively managed exposure to emerging markets (EM) equities and bonds in a single fund, in order to maximise long-term share income and capital gains.
Given the low correlation between equity and fixed income emerging markets, the fund is expected to offer investors a high degree of diversification, with lower volatility and lower risk compared to an emerging market equity fund.
The fund targets private investors looking for long-term capital gains in emerging markets at minimal risk, as well as investors looking to outsource asset allocation decisions to their portfolio management team.
The management of the fund will be based on the expertise developed by Mark Mobius, executive chairman of the Templeton Emerging Markets Group, and by the team that manages the Templeton Emerging Markets Balanced Fund, which already offers exposure to emerging market equities and fixed income in a single fund.
The Italian fund will be managed by Mobius and by Michael Hasenstab, co-director of the international bond department and portfolio manager within the Franklin Templeton fixed income group, with a global team of 49 emerging markets analysts also supporting investment decisions.
Mobius confirmed the interest towards emerging markets is currently at its peak and the potential for growth is very strong.
Sergio Albarelli, senior director for Southern Europe and Benelux at Franklin Templeton, said the fund will will rely on a private banking distribution network. “The Fund is a comprehensive offering for emerging markets as it allows exposure to two different classes with a single product,” he said.
