Lombard Odier IM launches Emerging Consumer fund in European countries
Lombard Odier Investment Managers has launched its Emerging Consumer fund in a number of European countries.
The fund mixes tools of traditional long-only stock analysis with the risk management skills of alternative asset management.
The Emerging Consumer fund is now available to investors in Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Spain, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
The fund is also registered in Finland and Singapore for institutional investors.
Emerging Consumer was initially launched in Switzerland in October 2011, and it focuses on changing consumption patterns of the middle class in emerging economies in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The fund is UCITS-registered and had more than $300m under management at the end of October. It generated a total return of more than 16% in the year through October 2012 and more than 18% since its launch.
The manager is Didier Rabattu, who previously worked at Amber Capital, SG Warburg and Deutsche Bank, where he led global consumer and retail research teams and was co-head of consumer and retail investment banking group.
“Traditionally long-only fund managers pick stocks and then watch them go up or down, that’s history. We adapt our thematic research to the macro environment and a strict risk approach which always worries about how much the portfolio might lose, the weight of positions and the effect of currencies,” he said.
