Martin Currie strengthens GEMs team

Martin Currie has confirmed the appointment of Paul Sloane as portfolio manager within Global Emerging Markets (GEMs) team, effective 13 August 2018. He will take on coverage of the financial sector.

Sloane brings a wealth of experience to the role having previously worked at Martin Currie for 14 years, most recently as co-manager of Martin Currie’s global alpha strategy.

Willie Watt, chief executive at Martin Currie commented: “Sloane has the personal attributes and technical ability for this role and enjoyed a great working relationship with our GEMs team. Not only does he have deep expertise in portfolio-relevant stock research and significant knowledge across several global sectors, he also has the ability to form, communicate and challenge opinion. With these attributes, he will be a powerful addition to our collaborative team based approach.”

This appointment follows four key strategic hires at the firm since the turn of the year, including the appointment of Zehrid Osmani from Blackrock as head of the Global Long Term Unconstrained team and Julian Ide as head of Distribution and Strategy.

In addition to these recent developments across its investment team, Martin Currie can also confirm that Andrew Ness, portfolio manager, in its GEMs team will leave the business to take up a new opportunity in the industry.
