José Cuervo joins Santander Asset Management as head of LatAm Equities
Santander Asset Management (SAM), Grupo Santander’s global asset management unit, has appointed José Cuervo as its new global head of regional mandates for Latin American equities.
Cuervo joins Santander from HSBC Global Asset Management, where he managed Latin American equities, Brazil, and Latin American equity investments in the BRIC countries and emerging markets GEM funds. He has more than 15 years’ experience in the industry and a strong track record managing Latin American equities, consistently positioning his funds in the first quartile of their category over the last few years, Santander said.
Cuervo will work with a large investment team and experienced local staff including 80 fund managers and analysts. He is expected to play a key role in building the company’s global position and institutional business, managing assets that are in high demand from institutional customers in Asia.
Cuervo has a degree in Commerce specialized in finance from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) and has developed his professional career in Vancouver, Oman, London and New York.
Santander Asset Management operates in 11 countries in Europe, Latin America and North America and has assets under management of more than €140bn.
