Salamanca plans Barcelona “Super Yacht” base
Salamanca Capital plans to create a “Super Yacht” base to rival Monaco in Barcelona, after acquiring its Marina Port Vell.
The Group’s Chair and Ceo Martin Bellamy explained the plans: “We hope to rival the best marinas in the world. While Monaco has an established reputation, we believe Barcelona has even more to offer.”
“This is a unique opportunity to turn the Marina into Europe’s most exciting mega yacht destination and in doing so add to the vibrancy of the city,” he said.
The Group, which consists of investment and advisory companies, will begin redevelopment of the marina this autumn. Completion of the work is due in the second half of next year.
As part of the redesign, capacity will be created for “more than 45 super yachts of more than 50 metres in length”, according to Uri Nachoom, Executive Director at Salamanca Group.
Some of the new berths will cater for yachts of up to 185 metres in size. Currently, the marina is home to about 400 vessels.
The Group will soon announce the launch of a maritime services business, to support the acquisition of Marina Port Vell and offer other international marine-related services.
“We are convinced that luxury yachting is a growth business,” Martin Bellamy, Salamanca’s Chair and CEO added.
