Spain’s Caixabank names new CEO

Spain’s third-largest bank Caixabank has appointed Gonzalo Gortázar as its new CEO.

Gortázar, who has been Caixabank’s CFO since 2009, will replace Juan María Nin who will keep his role as a representative of Caixabank on the boards of three different companies where the lender has shares.

The bank said in a statement that the move was reached “by mutual agreement” and approved by the board, although it didn’t mention the reasons behind Nin’s resignation.

Prior to joining Caixabank, Gortázar has worked with Morgan Stanley in London and Madrid since 1993.

The Fund Selector Roundtable Spain takes place on 16 September 2014 at the ME Madrid Reina Victoria.
