Sumi Trust appoints lead strategist
Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Group (Sumi Trust) has appointed Katzunori Kitakura as lead strategist based in Tokyo, taking over the role previously held by Genzo Kimura, who has moved to become economist/strategist at GPIF, the Japanese Government Pension Investment Fund.
Kitakura will be responsible for providing market research and analysis on a global basis for the $430bn manager.
He first joined Sumi Trust in 1984 as a proprietary trader, and has gone on to work in various units of the business worldwide, including the London Unit, the Market Making and the Global Markets Unit. Most recently, he was associate general manager of the Global Markets Business Planning Department.
Kitakura was a member of the Tokyo Foreign Exchange Market Committee from 2006 to 2012. His prescience and keen market awareness led him to become a regular forex commentator on “Morning Satellite” (2002-2009), a live TV business news programme in Japan. He speaks fluent English and holds a BA in Economics from Keio University, where he was also a pitcher for the university’s baseball team.
