Ex Nordea head joins BlackRock

Christian Clausen, former group CEO of Nordea has joined BlackRock to help boost its Nordic profile among  key customers, and relations with lawmakers and regulatory authorities.

Clausen will chair BlackRock’s Nordic business and work closely with the teams leading BlackRock’s business in the Nordic region and Emea.

The appointment has been described as a strategic investment into the Nordic business and increased local business. In the current low interest rate environnment, Nordic investors are being forced to think outside the box and actively research new ways of achieving positive returns. At the same time, increased regulatory pressures including stricter requirements for handling risk and reporting are seen as an area where customers are increasingly seeking guidance, and where BlackRock says it has developed solutions.

David Blumer, head off BlackRock’s Emea business said he welcomed Clausen’s appointment, while the appointee in turn said that “during all my years in the Nordic financial sector I have considered BlackRock to be an excelent investor and manager of its customers’ interests. I look forward to developing BlackRock’s business in the Nordic region together with the local team.”

Clausen was CEO at Nordea from 2007-2015. Previously he held several positions in areas such as capital markets, wholesale banking, private banking and asset management.

“We see big opportunities for BlackRock in the Nordics. Through the appointment of Christian Clausen as chair of our Nordic business we will be able to strengthen our offering and build even stronger relations with customers, lawmakers and the public sector in the region,” added Peter Beske Nielsen, country manager for the Nordics and the Netherlands, and head of BlackRock’s Continental European institutional business.
