Hedge fund researcher wins OP-Pohjola award
Finnish financial group OP-Pohjola’s Group Research Foundation Doctoral Thesis competition has awarded its prize of €10,000 to Petri Jylhä, for his work “Essays on the Economics of Hedge Funds”.
The doctoral dissertation consists of four essays that examine hedge funds from various perspectives:
– The first essay investigates hedge fund operations in international financial markets.
– The second essay demonstrates that hedge funds provide liquidity on the stock market.
– The third essay shows that capital flows have a significant impact on hedge fund yields.
– The fourth essay examines hedge fund return reporting.
Through the work, Jylhä showed the impact of hedge funds on exchange rates and interest rates, that they can improve market liquidity, that captial flows can impct the value of investments in funds, and that mis-reporting is done by hedge funds in order to artificially increase their size to boost commission, or to make them more attractive to new investors.
