Pictet alt branch names new hedge fund chief

Pictet Alternative Advisors, the alternative investment arm of Swiss banking group Pictet, has appointed Heinrich Merz as head of Hedge Funds.

Merz, who is the former chief investment officer of Amundi Alternative Investments, will oversee the 14-strong hedge fund team, managing some €9.1bn of assets.

He will report to Nicolas Campiche, CEO of Pictet Alternative Advisors.

Merz’s appointment follows the departure of Jean-Pierre Selvatico, who joined Systematica Investments as head of Trading and Counterparty Management in January 2017.

Prior to joining Amundi in 2016, Merz was co-deputy chief investment officer at Permal Investment Management Services where he was a member of the firm’s investment committee and managed a number of funds, including customised hedge fund portfolios.

Before this, he was a senior hedge fund specialist at Cambridge Associates. From 2005 to 2008, Merz was trader then analyst in the equity team of Concordia Advisors, a multi-strategy hedge fund, where he started his career.
