SNB appoints Zurbrügg to vice chairman, Maechler first woman to join board

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has appointed Fritz Zurbrügg as new vice chairman of the governing board and Andréa Maechler as boardmember as of 1 July 2015. Maechler is the first woman to join the SNB governing board.

Zubrügg is currently head of SNB Department III, covering financial markets, banking operations and information technology, he has been a member of the SNB governing board since 2012.

He previously worked among others as director of the Federal Finance Administration and as executive director for the Swiss-led constituency of the IMF.

Andréa Maechler will occupy the Board position vacated by Jean-Pierre Danthine, who relinquishes his post at the end of June 2015 upon reaching retirement age.

She is currently deputy division chief at the Global Markets Analysis Division of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington and has previously worked for the OECD, UNCTAD, the WTO and the IMF.
