Englander replaces Cohen as Bridges’ chairman
Bridges has announced that Peter Englander will take over as chair, replacing founding chair Ronald Cohen. Englander has served on Bridges’ management board and investment committee since the company’s launch in 2002.
Cohen, who will take over as chair of Bridges’ advisory board said: “I am delighted that the Board has chosen Peter Englander to sit as the new Chair and that he has accepted this role. I have worked with Peter at Apax Partners for 30 years and at Bridges for 10 and I cannot think of a more experienced or accomplished investor to chair Bridges in the future.”
Bridges, a sustainable growth investor, marked ten years of investing last Thursday at an event which featured Al Gore as keynote speaker.
Co-founder and managing partner of Bridges, Philip Newborough, said: “Ten years ago the prevailing view was that investing for financial and social or environmental returns were mutually exclusive aims. Our experience has shown that this is not the case. In our Sustainable Growth Funds, for example, almost 90% of Bridges’ investments are in the most deprived 25% of England, and half of them are in the most deprived 10%. We also have a strong focus on businesses in impact themes such as health, education and the environment. We have achieved successful exits from these funds ranging from 12-216% IRR. Over the next ten years, we look forward to delivering even greater social and environmental impact.”
