Fidelity International poaches CEO from M&G Investments

Fidelity International has announced the appointment of Anne Richards (pictured) as chief executive officer.

Currently CEO of M&G Investments, Richards will join the manager in December and will report to Fidelity International’s chairman Abigail Johnson.

Richards tallies 26 years of experience in the asset management industry and held analyst, portfolio manager and CIO’s roles in various firms including Aberdeen AM, JP Morgan AM or Mercury AM.

She chairs the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s practitioner panel and sits in the US-based Board of Leaders of 2020 Women on Boards whose aim is to increase the proportion of women on corporate boards.

2018 has been an eventful year so far for Fidelity International, the company’s former president Brian Conroy having stepped down last February while Bart Grenier and Romain Boscher have joined the firm as global head of Asset Management and global CIO Equities respectively, the former in January and the latter in February.

Hugh Prendergast and Michael Gibb were also hired in quality of global head of Product and head of Stewardship and Sustainable Investing respectively.

Commenting on Richards’ appointment, Abigail Johnson said: “Anne will assume responsibility for Fidelity International at an important time in its near-50 year history. Our ambitions to broaden and deepen our relationship with our clients; innovate in product development and solutions design; and to continue to develop our investment platform and workplace investing businesses have never been greater. I am very confident in Anne’s abilities to lead the company in this exciting period of future development and growth.”

Richards said: “This is an exciting opportunity to lead an international company as it moves into the next stage of its growth plans. Fidelity is an admired global brand with the potential to lead the market as individuals recognise the need to take ever-greater control over their financial security.”

Fidelity International had £235.1bn (€264.7bn) in assets under management as of 30 June 2018.
