Investec hires UK small cap fund manager

Investec Asset Management has appointed Matt Evans as portfolio manager of the Investec UK Smaller Companies fund, that has £330m (€376.5m) of assets under management.

He will take up his new duties after the summer of 2017 and will join the Investec Quality Team, co-headed by Simon Brazier and Clyde Rossouw.

Evans joins from Threadneedle where he has co-managed the highly-rated Threadneedle UK Smaller Companies Fund and Threadneedle UK Mid 250 Fund since December 2013.

In addition, he was sole manager of the Threadneedle Ethical UK Fund as well as co-portfolio manager of a number of institutional mandates.

Formerly, Evans spent 14 years at Legal & General Investment Management as a UK equities fund manager focusing on small caps.

David Aird, managing director, UK client group, said, “Matt has an excellent track record in UK small and mid-cap equities. Positioning his expertise within the Investec Quality Team alongside our UK Alpha and UK Equity Income Funds provides our clients with a compelling choice of UK equity-centric funds that further deepens our capability in this area. We are well positioned to meet the requirements of our adviser and wealth management clients, responding to increasing demand for unconstrained highly active UK equity funds, which aim to offer investors more consistency in today’s uncertain markets.”

As at end March 2017, Investec Asset Management managed over $119bn (€106.48bn) in assets.
