Jupiter names manager for Asian income fund
Jupiter has announced that Asian income specialist Jason Pidcock has joined the company as a fund manager.
Pidcock will manage the Jupiter Asian Income Fund, which is set launch in February 2016.
A portfolio seeking an income and capital growth over the long term, with a large cap bias, the Jupiter Asian Income Fund will aim to offer diversification across the Asia Pacific region, investing predominantly in developed markets including Australia, New Zealand and Singapore (excluding Japan), Jupiter said.
Pidcock, who has over 20 years’ experience investing in Asia, joins Jupiter from Newton Investment Management where he built a strong reputation for managing income-orientated assets in Asian markets.
At Newton Jason managed the £4.4bn Newton Asian Income Fund, delivering a return of 64% over the past five years compared with 35.9% for the IMA Asia Pacific Ex Japan sector average. Since launch it had returned 191.4% against 154.1% for the sector average.
Before joining Newton in 2004, Jason was responsible for stock selection and asset allocation in the Asia ex-Japan region for BP Investment Management having previously worked at Henderson Asset Management for more than two years as an assistant fund manager.
Stephen Pearson, CIO at Jupiter says: “Jason’s investment pedigree needs little introduction. His deep and specialised knowledge of Asian equities and high-conviction approach should perfectly complement our existing skillset in this area. We are delighted to welcome him to Jupiter.”
Jason Pidcock, fund manager at Jupiter, says: “I approached joining Jupiter just as I approach selecting any new holding for a portfolio; I have stringent criteria, and Jupiter ticked all the boxes. Managers at Jupiter seemed to be given a unique freedom and independence to shape their own portfolios and this is something I will appreciate as I build my strategy.
“The fall in markets over the past six months has thrown up a lot of exciting opportunities, and I’m champing at the bit to get started. In my opinion Jupiter offers investors access to a wealth of experience and talent, and I am very much looking forward to working alongside so many highly experienced colleagues both on the Asian and emerging markets teams, and across the broader investment teams at Jupiter.”
