LGIM appoints Paul So as head of Index Funds, Asia Pacific
Paul So has been appointed head of Index Funds, Asia Pacific at Legal & General Investment Management, which is the biggest UK manager of institutional assets and one of the biggest institutional index managers globally.
So will be based in Hong Kong and report to both Ali Toutounchi, global head of Index Funds, and Alan Flynn, head of LGIM Asia Pacific.
So’s role is to build a team of index portfolio managers and traders in the region.
He joins LGIM from Enhanced Investment Products, where he was head of Beta Products for four years. Previously he was a director in the Portfolio Management Group at BlackRock, and before that head of Portfolio Management Asia ex-Japan at Barclays Global Investors.
Alan Flynn said: “Paul brings valuable experience of both managing assets and building a portfolio management team in Asia and we are delighted to welcome him to the team. His appointment is an important development for our Asia Pacific business as we build our asset management capability in Hong Kong to meet the needs of the growing institutional appetite for cost effective index and alternative beta solutions.”
LGIM launched its first index fund in 1986. It has more than $444bn of index assets under management. The Hong Kong based Asia Pacic headquarters were opened in July 2013 as part of the group’s international expansion.
