Mark Watson has joined the Morningstar Investment Management group, a unit of Morningstar Inc., as Director of UK Intermediary Sales for the Morningstar OBSR Managed Portfolios service, a discretionary managed portfolios service for the UK adviser market.

Watson has more than 17 years of financial services experience. He joins Morningstar from Brooks Macdonald, where he spent three years as head of Sales for the firm’s funds business. Watson also worked for Zurich Intermediary Group, working with advisers in the south-east of England, for Barclays in Dubai, and for SHUAA Capital where he advised on investment portfolios for high net worth individuals.

“Mark’s experience both in the fund management industry and as a financial adviser make him the ideal candidate to help us expand our managed portfolio service offering to advisers across the UK,” Paul Malone, VP, Sales for Morningstar UK said. “We are pleased to welcome Mark to Morningstar.”

The Morningstar OBSR Managed Portfolios service launched in May 2013 with a suite of active and passive strategies aligned to the output of the Morningstar Risk Tolerance Questionnaire. In October 2014, Morningstar added to the range with the launch of two discretionary managed Income Portfolios. This was followed in January 2015 with the addition of four Multi-Asset Real Return managed portfolios.

The Morningstar OBSR Managed Portfolios are actively managed by the Morningstar Investment Management Europe portfolio management team, supported by investment professionals in London and Paris. The portfolios utilise the asset allocation expertise of Morningstar’s affiliate, Ibbotson Associates, and draw on the manager research expertise of Morningstar’s 100 manager research analysts located across Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America.
