SSGA names head of SPDR ETF in EMEA

State Street Global Advisors has appointed Matteo Andreetto as senior managing director and head of the SPDR ETFs business in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

London-based Andreetto will report directly to Rory Tobin, global head of the firm’s SPDR ETF business, responsible for developing, leading and executing all aspects of SPDR’s ETF business strategy in EMEA. He will lead the ETF sales teams, working with colleagues across product development, marketing, capital markets and infrastructure to deliver ETF products and services that meet client aspirations.

Before joining SPDR, Andreetto worked as CEO and Index Services responsible at STOXX (Deutsche Börse Group). Prior to that, he held various senior positions in capital markets distribution leadership at firms including UniCredit, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs.

Rory Tobin said: “The European market place has been a key source of growth for the global SPDR ETF business, with particular investor interest in fixed income, equity sector and smart beta strategies.

“We believe the European ETF market is in the early stages of developing its growth potential, with various secular trends providing a supportive backdrop for continued growth. These trends include greater focus on value for money in investing, increased requirements for transparency and liquidity in investment products, increased use of fixed income ETFs in portfolio management and a migration to fee based advisory models in wealth management.”
