Global M&A hits post 2008 high

The level of global mergers and acquisitions has reached a post-2008  record level, with global M&A transactions equating $3230bn (€2725bn) per year.

Annual M&A acticity is still 11.8% lower compared to 2007 according to the latest data released by Mergermarket.

The strongest growth per sector was recorded in the Pharma Medical & Biotech sector, where the volume of deals increased from $173.7bn (€146.4bn) to $379.5bn (€320.1bn) YoY.

Followed by M&A agreements in  the energy mining & utilities sector which amounted to a total value of $ 632.5bn (€533.6bn) compared to $428.7bn (€361.6bn) the previous year.

Leading sectors for M&A continue to be Mining Energy & Utilities with a market share of 19.6%,  TMT (18.7%), followed by Pharma, Medical & Biotech (11.8%) and Industrial & Chemicals (10.7%).
