The InvestmentEurope Pan-European Lausanne Summit 2018, presented by 12 asset managers attracted selectors from all over Europe.
Groups participating included Acadian Asset Management, Baillie Gifford & Co, Brandes Investment Partners, Candriam Investors Group, Eurizon Capital, Fiera Capital, Invesco PowerShares, Investec Asset Management, Old Mutual Global Investors, Origin Asset Management (a boutique of Principal Global Investors), Tokio Marine Asset Management, and Wellington Management.
Collectively, they covered areas such as European, global and Japanese, US and emerging markets equities; understanding fixed income amid rising inflation and the opportunities in emerging market debt denominated in hard currency; systematic and value approaches to investing; and the use of US preferred securities as well as developments in impact investing.
Keynote at the event was Andreas Ekström, author, columnist and commentator on the digital revolution. He outlined a thesis showing how in an era of increasing reliance on digital content and knowledge points to a business such as Facebook taking an unassailable lead, and the role that the state could or should play in ensuring that a single company cannot come to dominate should policy be implemented that ends so called net neutrality.
The event also features an in-depth presentation on SharingAlpha’s platform for fund selectors looking to rate funds and build up a ranking of their own abilities to select funds; while an interactive Q&A session delved into the views of delegates to facets of event-driven interaction with fund managers; and a panel of the directors of the Association of Professional Fund Investors outlined the objectives of that organisation and its intent to contributed to the development of professional standards that could be applied across the European fund selector community.
